Shifting foundations from tree roots, oversaturated ground, earthquakes, and more affect the slant of your chimney.
It’s operable via a pull chain in your firebox or a small lever above it. But if it doesn’t, the smoking and drafting problem could result from several factors such as blockages, under-sized chimney height, or improperly seasoned wood. Preheating the flue will reverse the chimney draft, keeping you safer and allowing you to enjoy a warm and cozy fire faster.
How Does a Chimney Work?
According to the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), fireplaces need to be cleaned once there is 1/8″ of creosote and/or soot buildup inside the chimney liner. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), all chimneys should be cleaned at least once every year, regardless.
Once the old chimney is gone, you’ll need to prepare the area where the new chimney will be installed. This includes clearing away any debris and making sure the area is level.
